Marsello is the small retailer’s virtual marketing assistant.  The Siri or Alexa for your local retailer’s marketing needs.  Founded in New Zealand and having raised over $4 million in VC funding thus far, Marsello’s  machine learning solutions takes the guess work out of marketing for small to medium sized organizations.

The challenge

Marsello are a New Zealand based business who sent their Co-Founder and President to San Francisco to launch their US operations.  Engage was tasked with finding Marsello’s initial Sales hire with the view to that person building out a sales team.  Marsello was an unknown brand within the local market and in an incredibly tight talent market, needed a strong pitch to lure talent from some of the Bay Area’s more established tech powerhouses.

Engage worked with Marsello over a number of weeks to clarify the perfect profile for the role.  This was a collaborative process with the needs of the business at the heart of all discussions with expert local market knowledge provided for guidance purposes.

Once the profile was settled on, Engage headhunted from the various target businesses and selectively pitched this exciting opportunity to proven sales performers in the Bay Area.

Engage coordinated several days of interviewing for the Marsello team including thorough role plays.  The top two were put through to one final interview with the President.

The Outcome

Ultimately, the President could not decide between the top two candidates and instead decided to bring forward hiring plans and hire both candidates.  The process from start to finish was managed in 5 weeks thanks to a highly turned hiring process, a motivated and passionate client and a dedicated team at Engage.
